Christmas!

Activity: "Christmas Around the World"

Objective: Research and present how Christmas is celebrated in different countries to foster collaboration, cultural curiosity, and research skills in English.

Instructions:

Each group will choose a country (e.g., Mexico, Japan, Germany, South Africa, Australia, etc.).

Information search: Students will use internet-connected devices to research:

Christmas traditions: typical foods, decorations, activities. 

Weather: How does the weather affect the celebration? (e.g., summer in Australia). 

Special customs: carols, religious festivities, iconic characters like Santa Claus, the Three Wise Men, or local figures. 

Cultural differences: What is unique about their way of celebrating?

Prepare a presentation and present to the class.


Each group will share their research with the rest of the class in 3-5 minutes. Other students can ask questions or comment on the cultural differences.Optional final activity.

Create a group mural titled "Christmas Around the World", where each group contributes highlights from their country.

Useful tools for online research:

  • Google: Use terms like "How is Christmas celebrated in [country]".
  • Wikipedia: Look for articles on "Christmas traditions around the world".
  • YouTube videos: To see visual examples of celebrations.
